Schools Spread a Useful Message About “Calories In” and “Calories Out”
SAN DIEGO, CA – June 20, 2005:-CalorieKing®, the leading provider of
calorie-centered information to U.S. consumers and dietitians through its
perennial best-selling book, The Doctor's Pocket Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate
Counter, has heeded the call of last year's California Parent Teacher
Association's Resolution, "Healthy Lifestyles for All Children". Today it
announced that it will exhibit a healthy new fundraising concept at the
National PTA Convention in Columbus, Ohio on June 24.
"Rather than sell calories in the form of candy or cookies, schools are
seeking fundraising tools that are consistent with teaching young people to
embrace a healthy lifestyle," Keith McGuinness, president and CEO of
CalorieKing Wellness Solutions, emphasized.
Already a familiar brand among U.S. dietitians and consumers because more than
10 million of its books have been sold since 1988, CalorieKing currently
offers nutrition and exercise management software for Palm and other handheld
devices, PC and Mac desktops. The software teaches about food and physical
activity while helping users track their calories over time. More than a
million people per month visit www.CalorieKing.com.
"CalorieKing offers schools two fundraising programs. Schools can raise money
by offering CalorieKing's Nutrition & Exercise Management Software on a Try-It-
Before-You-Buy-It basis, via the Internet, or they can sell The Doctor's
Pocket Calorie, Fat & Carb Counter, instead of calorie-dense food products,"
McGuinness said. "With the software, there is no upfront cost, and the kids
don't have to go door-to-door; the Internet delivers the product to the
customer, and CalorieKing sends a check to the PTA," he added.
